Where to find gluten free tapas in Leigh-On-Sea

Spanish Tapas are up there in my top favourite foods. Finding authentic, tasty AND gluten and dairy free can be hard though.

I’ve found a few places in Leigh now, here are some lovely places:

  1. Hogar Del Mar

If you like Spanish food, you’ll love this place. Great selection of tapas cooked by the talented chef Louise.

  • Padron peppers are so good
  • Chicken, chorizo and meatballs.
  • Garlic mushrooms were divine
  • Prawns using olive oil [not butter]
  • Homemade skin-on chips are gluten-free and dairy free (but you have to let them know) so I had this with the bravas sauce and alioli on top. Totally yum. As I wasn’t able to have the patatas bravas.
  • The frozen daiquiri strawberry cocktail (made with real strawberries) is hands down the best frozen daiquiri I’ve had. They also have the Old Leigh Rum here.
  • The Ramon Bilbao red wine is super smooth and has a nice accompaniment to the dishes.
  • The team are super helpful, attentive and friendly.
  • It’s family run by Louise, Stuart (the owner and he also DJs here)
  • Daisy, Sina, Grace, Kelis and Honey for the fabulous service and patience when ordering gluten-free/dairy-free dishes.
  • It’s available for private hire…lots of people booking bday parties here – it’s a perfect venue as its soundproofed, at the end of St Clements Arcade so feels like a private walkway and a big space.

Fun fact: I had my 40th bday here and hired it out privately with a DJ and the people that owned it at the time did all the catering when it was Cockadoodledoo many years ago!
